| Objectives: The election committee conducts all Local 199 elections when called for. The date of an election is determined by either the President or Unit Chairperson and the Elections Committee chairperson. The date of election must fall within a two month period at the end of the term of office. It is the responsibility of the elections committee to ensure the election is fair and to take charge of the nomination ballots, voting ballots, to count the votes and inform the membership of the results. Once an election is called, a seven day notice of election is posted to inform the membership of the upcoming election. The ballot box is open for 7 days so eligible members can nominate themselves for election. The election starts seven days after the Nomination box closes. Voting can take place in either the workplace, at the union hall or in some cases in all the units and at the hall. A pre vote is also arranged for members who will be absent on the date of the election. The elections committee chairperson makes recommendations to the membership to ensure the integrity of the process is maintained. The committee shall have full charge of the elections process and is governed by the local Elections Manual, Local Bylaws and the CAW constitution. |

| Objectives: The Women’s Committee mobilizes women on equality issues in the workplace and community. This committee has sponsored a luncheon on International Women’s Day (March 8). Last year they held a silent auction where the proceeds were donated to “Look Good, Feel Good” Breast Cancer Research in memory of Sister Darlene Quinn (a former member of the committee who passed away in Dec. 06). Darlene was also the chairperson of our Coutts Library unit. Every December the Committee also has a breakfast in remembrance of the massacre of the students at Montreal Polytechniqe. At this very moving event, male representatives of Local 199 light candles to remember each woman. The committee has also had Sandie Bellows speak regarding violence against women. Sandie is a local resident who was the victim of a kidnap, sexual assault and attempted murder. |
