Objectives: The Committee has participated in local area Christmas and Labour Day parades. We have the honour of thanking our retirees by helping out at the annual Retirees Open House. The Community Services group sponsors an annual Christmas Dinner (with the trimmings) for the less fortunate. The preparation for this dinner is on December 26th. The dinner is served on December 27th. We are extremely proud of our members, their accomplishments and community spirit.
Past:The Community Services group co-ordinated volunteers for the Bethlehem Housing Project on James St. in St. Catharines. This project provided 40 low income housing units for people in need. Volunteers participated in cleanup of the site, landscaping, painting, assembling cabinets, building the fence and other general maintenance.
Current: The Community Services group is currently working on a breakfast program with E.I. McCauley School. This school has many lower income families who appreciate the breakfast program. If you have some extra time, please leave your name and phone number at the union hall. (905-682-2611). The Community Services group also participates in walk-a-thons for cancer, the most recent being "Walk A Mile in Her Shoes", food drives for local needs and when needed, coats for our cold winters. We have attended rallies and lend support to other CAW committees.

Objectives: The election committee conducts all Local 199 elections when called for. The date of an election is determined by either the President or Unit Chairperson and the Elections Committee chairperson. The date of election must fall within a two month period at the end of the term of office. It is the responsibility of the elections committee to ensure the election is fair and to take charge of the nomination ballots, voting ballots, to count the votes and inform the membership of the results. Once an election is called, a seven day notice of election is posted to inform the membership of the upcoming election. The ballot box is open for 7 days so eligible members can nominate themselves for election. The election starts seven days after the Nomination box closes. Voting can take place in either the workplace, at the union hall or in some cases in all the units and at the hall. A pre vote is also arranged for members who will be absent on the date of the election. The elections committee chairperson makes recommendations to the membership to ensure the integrity of the process is maintained. The committee shall have full charge of the elections process and is governed by the local Elections Manual, Local Bylaws and the CAW constitution.

Objectives: This committee is involved in political action on behalf of the membership. The committee provides the membership with objective information on issues that are important to their families, union and communities. Governments at all levels make decisions everyday which directly impacts our daily lives. Free trade agreements, E.I. Clawback, harmonization of GST and PST, and P3 hospitals, are just an example of the decisions being made that can have an adverse effect on our members lives. This committees mandate is to ensure that our members are kept well informed about these changes that threaten the standard of living and quality of life. The committee will encourage our members to be politically active, to vote and participate in the electorial process.

Objectives: The Women's Committee mobilizes women on equality issues in the workplace and community. This committee has sponsored a luncheon on International Women's Day (March 8). Last year they held a silent auction where the proceeds were donated to "Look Good, Feel Good" Breast Cancer Research in memory of Sister Darlene Quinn (a former member of the committee who passed away in Dec. 06). Darlene was also the chairperson of our Coutts Library unit. Every December the Committee also has a breakfast in remembrance of the massacre of the students at Montreal Polytechniqe. At this very moving event, male representatives of Local 199 light candles to remember each woman. The committee has also had Sandie Bellows speak regarding violence against women. Sandie is a local resident who was the victim of a kidnap, sexual assault and attempted murder.
