Vacation Pay - You have to report your vacation pay to E.I.
June 15th 2009
In past years, the E.I. office would receive your vacation pay amounts from General Motors and put the allocation on your claim for the weeks of vacation pay accordingly. This is not going to be done automatically this year. The E.I. office is expecting all laid off members to allocate their vacation pay when reporting their weeks of layoff. If you are on layoff July or August, it is your responsibility to call the E.I. office (1-800-206-7218) and tell them the gross amount of vacation pay you were paid and have them input it in their system for allocation. read more
Employment Insurance Clawback
Employment Insurance (EI) and Repayment of Benefits at Income Tax Time - Year 2009 What you should know:
Whatever the type of benefits you receive, EI payments are taxable income, meaning federal and provincial or territorial taxes, where applicable, are deducted when you receive them. At the time you file your income tax return, depending on your net income and if you were paid regular benefits, you may be required to repay some of the EI benefits you received.
If your 2009 net income from all sources exceeds $52,875 you will be required to repay 30% of the lesser of:
your net income in excess of $52,875; or
the total regular benefits, paid in the taxation year
Your payback is based on the amount over the threshold only.

Employment Insurance Appeals
Service Canada (the federal government's public service information source) maintains a handy list of EI appeals decisions that are favourable to workers. This is a fantastic resource for workplace representatives and worker advocates dealing with EI issues across the country.
The government included this online database because of grassroots work done by worker and unemployed worker advocates, including members of the CAW. Major search categories are listed (e.g. Misconduct or Voluntary Leaving), as well as sub-categories, to help facilitate online navigation - making it much more user-friendly.
