     Union Education

We can only remain a strong, articulate union if we have an informed and active membership from which to develop the dynamic leaders required to meet head on the challenges of tomorrow. We can only develop those leaders through education.

The CAW offers a variety of educational courses to our members. Following is a list of the different courses, click on the links below to see the dates available in 2008.

Courses Available:

Depending upon the workplace and course, applicants may apply for funding assistance for tuition, lost time, travel allowance, & childcare. For more information please contact the Union Hall or The Education Committee. 905-682-2611

The CAW offers one of the most extensive labour education programs in the world today. Our union's commitment to education has played an enormous role in creating the strong social union that we are today.

Our courses develop new activists, deepen our leadership base and provide CAW members with critical thinking skills, basic union tools and an understanding of the world around us.

Whether you're interested in collective bargaining, health and safety, women's issues, human rights, the environment, international solidarity, workers. compensation or any other union-related issue, you'll find that our education programs give you the opportunity to imagine the world we want to live in, and begin to develop the skills and the strategies that will take us there.

Buzz Hargrove
President CAW

Welcome! We are excited to offer a calendar full of courses that are designed by some of our country's top union educators, and delivered by an incredible group of CAW Discussion Leaders. Our programs are based on adult learning principles tackling real-world issues, with real-world examples.

Area schools are open to all CAW members - anyone can attend and there is no registration fee. We have all sorts of scheduled programs, but we also accommodate requests (see the back page of this program for "How to make a local union request").

Week-long programs are for those units who have negotiated Paid Education Leave in their contracts, and they are held at our Family Education Centre in Port Elgin. Our four-week core program, which is also delivered in Port Elgin, is the cornerstone of our educational programs.

Please take the time to get to know more about all of the courses we offer. We look forward to meeting you and other members of your local union in the classroom. Please join us for what we think is one of the most rewarding aspects of belonging to the CAW.
